Do you agree with the government's action on minimum wage?

B.C.'s Minimum Wage

In 2001, B.C. had the highest minimum wage in Canada, but until this past May it had slipped to the lowest.

● Starting May 1, 2011 - $8.75 per hour
● Starting November 1, 2011 - $9.50 per hour
● Starting May 1, 2012 - $10.25 per hour

As of May 1, 2011 there is a separate minimum wage for employees who serve liquor which by May of 2012 will be $1.50 less than the standard minimum wage for everyone else. Supporters of the minimum wage celebrate it as a way to reduce poverty and assist low income families. Others argue that raising the minimum wage will put financial stress on businesses, who will in turn reduce their staff creating more unemployment.

How do you feel about the debate?

If you have to reduce the size of your staff to be able to afford the measly $1.50 pay increase for your staff, then you should close your business all together. Sounds like you are heavily indebted...get out while you can.

I am glad that the minimum wage is rising. It will really help. My employer does not give me time and a half for overtime, is that legal?

Frnkaly I think that's absolutely good stuff.

As an employer, I will probably have to reduce the size of my staff to enable me to pay the new minimum wage.
