A good website will have plenty of up-to-date job postings and will enable you to create 'alerts' notifying you via email of any relevant postings. Many sites allow you to post your resume and access career advice.

The two official sources of jobs from employers validated by the government of Canada are www.jobbank.gc.ca and www.workingincanada.gc.ca. A popular website that post jobs from employers by city is www.craigslist.org. The site www.monster.ca is another top pick for job seekers. www.workbc.ca allows you to search current job listings in your community and around British Columbia.

Some enterprising bloggers have created job-related sites aimed at particular careers. For example, writer Angela West's site, www.freelancewritingjobs.ca, provides links to freelance writing jobs in Canada. Try getting creative with your Google search terms and you might find a website that specializes in links to job posts in your field.

If you know a company you would like to work for, you can bookmark its Human Resources page and check regularly for openings. Larger employers, such as universities, typically allow you to create job alerts so you can always know about an opportunity. Even some relatively small businesses and organizations post jobs on their websites. At the very least, you can use the website to research the specific place you want to work and obtain contact information. Nonprofits sometimes mention volunteer or paid positions in their e-newsletters. Becoming a subscriber only takes a few seconds and you will be able to follow the rganization as it evolves - and be quick to respond to an opportunity.
