Requirements |
- Taking initiative to talk to people in a variety of ways, including in person, by phone and email - Ability to follow scripts in an engaging way - Ability to engage and connect with folks of diverse backgrounds - Taking initiative and willingness to try new things (e.g. approach folks proactively, try different greetings to see which ones work best, etc.) - Ability to participate in, help plan and prepare for tabling at public events - Helping with the digital campaigns through the creation of content, including taking photos of your activities for social media posts, being willing to write short texts for blogs, emails or social media, etc. - Digital skills and attention to detail in order to effectively track activities and inventory in spreadsheets, communicate online, and assemble Clean Boater Kits in a standard and consistent format * It would also be helpful if you have any of the following skills, qualifications or equivalent experiences, though they are by no means required: - Boating experience and/ or training - A Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate - Candidates with fluency in languages other than English, Indigenous people, and those from racialized and/or marginalized communities, and facing obstacles to participation including people with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply |
Duties and Responsibilities |
- Your main priority will be engagement with boaters in the North Island - Powell River riding at marinas, yacht clubs, boatyards, fuel docks, harbour authorities, and at boating related events to distribute our Clean Boater Kits, and conduct our Clean Boater Survey - Clean Boater Kits are filled with different spill supplies and informational tools and you will be trained on educating the boater about these supplies - These kits will need to be assembled with specific content and quality control for distribution - You will also provide support to our volunteer Dock Walkers, helping to coordinate their activities, and ensuring they have the materials and support they need to dock walk in their communities - Additionally, you will be using tracking tools (spreadsheets, online forms, etc.) to document your activities along with volunteers, and will be encouraged to suggest and implement additional engagement methods, or visit additional locations that may help increase the reach or impact of our work - Other tasks may include updates to pump-out mapping and Clean Marine BC eco-certified facilities documentation |
