Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW)
What is it?
The Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW) is designed to provide people between the ages 55 and 64 with the support they need to transition into new jobs. This support is provided through a combination of job-search coaching, skills upgrading, and work experience. Basic computer training is an important part of the program.
Who Is Eligible?
The TIOW focuses on older workers aged 55 to 64 who are:
- Unemployed
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Residing in an eligible community
- In need of new or enhanced skills to successfully transition into new employment

Funding for this program is provided through a federal-provincial cost-share initiative, and is administered by the Ministry of Advanced Education & Labour Market Development
Wage Subsidy Program
Currently Receiving EI (Employment Insurance)
or
- have received EI in the past 3 years or
- started a maternity or parental EI claim in the past 5 years
You may be eligible to apply for training sponsorship.
You may be eligible to apply for Wage Subsidy Program job postings.
