Requirements

- This position is full time, as you will work under an averaging agreement at 40 hrs per week
- Mature, self-starting, self-supervising people are required
- Looking for people who want a steady permanent income. This is ideal for a homemaker, semi-retired or retired person or someone desiring an interesting and low stress job who can entertain themselves when the weather is good and there is little to do
- Trained surface weather observers work a 13 hr day beginning at 6am during PDT (the 13th hr is always paid at double time rate) and a 12 hr day during PST beginning at 7am at the Powell River Weather Station
- You will be trained to observe cloud heights and types, weather phenomena that is a hazard for aviation and other meteorological information required to support the air navigation system of Canada
- You will work with one other person who is the lead hand
- It is typically a 4 on 3 off/ 3 on 4 off schedule which will rotate you through weekends about once every 5-6 weeks
- You work holidays and receive overtime and stat holiday pay

Duties and Responsibilities

- Recording and reporting sirface weaher statistics as per proper procedure

Additional Details

- Successful candidates choose to work hard and master the material
- Course dates this spring are Jan 7th through Feb 6th, 2019
- You should have an interest in meteorology and/or climatology and be computer literate, secondary education and/or a degree is desirable
- The training course is 4 1/2 weeks (24 training days) in duration at the Nav Centre in Cornwall Ontario
- All expenses covered plus a small honorarium for you to attend this course. You have a private room in an excellent facility with world class
amenities and 3 meals a day
- Your weekends are your own but this is a challenging course with 3 exams including practical weather observing and pass mark is 80%
- You must pass each exam and certify on the station in order to be hired as an employee
